Keeping Your DogSafe and Legal

In Pennsylvania, all dogs are required by law to have a current rabies vaccination and to be licensed.

How to Obtain aLicense

Dog licenses and Rabies vaccinations are required for ALL dogs 3 months of age and older. Licenses are issued by the county of residence. Licenses are issued annually and are valid from the date of issue until December 31.

Non-Philadelphia Residents (PA):

Yearly:
  • Licenses are annually from January to December and can be handled with the online portal through the county of residence
  • Licenses can be purchased online or at SPCA locations
Lifetime:
  • Lifetime licenses require microchipping
  • Complete the permanent ID verification form and Lifetime license application, and then mail to the county of residence

Philadelphia Residents (PA):

Yearly:
Lifetime:
  • No Lifetime license is available

State dog wardens conduct routine, unannounced inspections of our boarding facility twice a year. If your dog is boarded during an inspection and does not have a valid license, you may receive a citation or fine. Hopewell Veterinary Hospital is not responsible for any penalties resulting from failure to obtain a dog license as required by state law.
